Benidorm vs Calpe vs Albir: Which Costa Blanca Resort Is Right for You?
An honest comparison of three of the Costa Blanca's most popular resorts — Benidorm, Calpe and Albir — to help you pick the right base.
If you're flying into Alicante, you'll almost certainly consider one of these three resorts. They're within 25 km of each other but feel completely different.
Benidorm — the big, buzzy one
Two huge sandy beaches (Levante and Poniente), a skyline of high-rises, and a nightlife and entertainment scene unmatched on the Costa Blanca. Great value, English-friendly, and brilliant for families thanks to Terra Mítica, Aqualandia, and Mundomar. Stay here if you want energy, choice, and convenience.
Calpe — the postcard one
Dominated by the dramatic Peñón de Ifach rock, Calpe combines two long beaches with a working fishing port, excellent seafood restaurants, and a lower-rise, more "Spanish" feel. Great walking, snorkelling and boat trips. Stay here if you want scenery and a slower pace.
Albir — the calm one
A small, walkable resort between Benidorm and Altea, with a pebble beach, a famous palm-lined pedestrian promenade (Paseo de las Estrellas), and a strong Scandinavian/Belgian expat community. Excellent restaurants, very safe, very quiet at night. Stay here if you want relaxation without isolation.
